HW 23

Book- Tuesdays with Morrie
author- Mitch Albom
publisher- Paul Weiss
year published-1977
Precis-Morrie is becoming worse and Mitch is becoming more and more concerned. He feels terrible about Morries death creeping closer. They're meetings become more insightful and Mitch is motivated to change his life styles.

Quotes- "Morries approach was exactly the opposite. Turn on the faucet. Wash ourself with the emotion. It wont hurt you. It will help you. " pg 105

This is an example of alternatives to dominant practices. A lot of people like to block out the negative and try not to accept it, but he is accepting the negative and kind of embracing it.

"Same for loneliness : you let go, let the tears flow, feel it completely - but eventually be able to say "All right that was my moment with loneliness. I'm not afraid of feeling lonely, but now I'm going to put that loneliness aside and know that there are other emotions in the world, and I'm going to experience them as well." -105

I'm not sure if this is a health way to deal with emotions, yes you allow yourself to feel them but what if the feelings are too intense and you overwhelm yourself.

""We all yearn in some way to return to those days when we were completely taken care of- unconditional love, unconditional attention. Most of us didn't get a enough" pg 116

I agree with this theory we do yearn for love and attention, and we look to things or people to fill in the hole. I think we all do it subconsciously though and some would never admit to it.

This book isn't really showing me anything new, I always knew there was different ways to deal with death and illness, but this book doesn't ignore the pain that people go through during illness and death. Its also showing how to appreciate the things you have or had and to be able to die peacefully knowing you achieved everything you want in your life.
